Stan Ponstein was born and raised in Grandville, Michigan and is the son of Arthur (deceased) and Evelyn Ponstein. Stan is a graduate of Grandville High School and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Aquinas College.

In 1980 at the age of 19, Stan ran successfully for the Grandville Board of Education and served for 21½ years becoming the 2nd longest serving Board Member for the Grandville Public Schools.  Stan went on to be elected to the Grandville City Council in 2001 and served for seven years before running in 2008 for the County Commission to fill  the open seat being vacated by retiring Commissioner Marvin Hiddema.

Besides his duties as County Commissioner, Stan is employed by Costco Wholesale, and enjoys spending time and traveling his wife Melissa, mostly around this great State of Michigan.

Stan was sworn in as the 114th Pressident of the Michigan Association of Counties by his good friend, Grandville Mayor, Steve Maas at the Annual Conference for the Association.
